The Story Behind the Design

Placed onto each bottle is our artistic interpretation of a great pūrākau. At the centre of the design stands the story of Tāne’s ascent to the heavens — a journey not just of physical rising, but of deep spiritual purpose.

Flanking the centreline are two powerful manaia figures representing Tāne and his guide Tūpaea, guardians of the sacred pathway between realms. Beyond them, on each side, are the whatukura — Ruatau and Rehua — celestial beings who welcome Tāne at the threshold of Te Toi o ngā Rangi.

This design marks the moment Tāne receives his first blessing in the waiora, the sacred waters of knowledge and life, symbolising the flow of mauri and the pursuit of higher understanding. It is a reminder to honour our own ascent, our own sacred journey, every time we hydrate.
